The Anambra State Government recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC). This is in fulfillment of Mr. Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s promise to engage with relevant stakeholders to improve the State’s Power output.
Since you last heard from us, we had some interesting events, especially in revitalizing previously abandoned projects.
Here are the details
ANAMBRA STATE MOVES TO DEVELOP THE AGULU LAKE LEISURE PARK
Earlier this year, the Anambra State Government initiated steps to expand the Agulu Lake Hotel project to accommodate a world-class amusement and Leisure park. Sequel to this, the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) Committee responsible for this project has finalized the concept and engineering designs to guide the development of the proposed amusement and Leisure Park.
With the engagement of a consultant to guide the procurement and construction phases of the Amusement and Leisure Park, the project (phase 1) is estimated to be completed by December 2023. The project is expected to utilize over 20 hectares of land around Agulu Lake, and reposition the State as a tourist and relaxation destination.
The Committee consists of the Commissioner of Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism, Comrade Don Onyenji, the MD/CEO Anambra Urban Regeneration Council, Arc Mike Okonkwo, and the MD ANSIPPA Mark Okoye.
ANSG INSPECTS THE ONITSHA WATER SCHEME FACILITIES
As part of the Soludo administration’s promise of auditing and rehabilitating previously abandoned projects, the Anambra State Urban Water Resources Management team and ANSIPPA paid a site inspection visit to the Onitsha Water Scheme facilities.
Over two decades ago, the Onitsha Water Scheme provided portable pipe borne water to households and businesses across the city. Unfortunately, the lack of a proper maintenance and sustainability plan led to the eventual collapse of the project. Prior administrations had commenced the rehabilitation of the scheme but the absence of a sustainability structure led to it current dilapidated state.
The site inspection team is expected to submit a report based on onsite investigations and recommend next steps to the ANSEC on the best way to revitalize the project. We are exploring possible partnerships with the private sector and development finance institutions to achieve the Soludo administration’s goal of providing clean pipe-borne water to every resident of Anambra State.
UPDATES
ANSIPPA RECEIVES PROPOSALS FROM BIDDERS ON GOVERNMENT PRINTING PRESS
As a follow-up to the update published in Anambra Insights, the bidders interested in obtaining the concession to operate the Government Press were invited to ANSIPPA to submit their technical and financial proposals. This is another milestone towards finalizing the concession agreement with the State Government.
The concession agreement will allow the private sector manage the facility, optimize its operations, reduce the costs incurred by the Government and its MDAs, and generate revenue for the State.
On a Sad Note,
On April 14, 2023, the Management and Staff of the Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency, joined the Family of Mbamelu to pay their last respect to the late Barr. Stanley Okwuchukwu Mbamelu.
Until his death, Barr. Mbamelu was the Head of Legal Department, ANSIPPA. He will be remembered by the Agency for his strong dedication and commitment to his duties.
May his Soul rest in perfect peace.
