Less than 2 weeks to the close of Q2, 2024. How is your year going?
For us at the Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency, we have been hyper-focused on meeting our 90:90 goal -to achieve 90% execution on 90% of the agreements signed at ANINVEST 1.0.
Today, we will share some exciting updates on the progress made on the Anambra Mixed-use Industrial City (AMIC), the Anambra Electricity Policy, the agreement with GVE, and other agreements signed at the Summit.
Let’s get to it
ANSG RECEIVES DRAFT MASTERPLAN FOR ANAMBRA MIXED-USE INDUSTRIAL CITY
At the start of Q2 2024, Artelia Consulting Engineers Ltd submitted a draft masterplan, a crucial document for the holistic and sustainable development of the Anambra Mixed-Use Industrial City (AMIC).
The masterplan proposes the following zones: Special Agro-Processing Zone (SAPZ), Chemical and Pharmaceutical Zone, Automotive and Motor Vehicle Assembly Zone, Financial District, Service Sector, Export Emporium, Logistics Hub, General Manufacturing Zone, Renewable Energy Sector, Entertainment, Recreational, and Leisure Zone, as well as areas designated for Domestic Tariff and MSMEs.
Following this submission, the consultants will present the document to the Anambra State Executive Council for approval in the coming weeks, before commencing engagement sessions with the relevant stakeholders.
ANSG WELCOMES MONITORING TEAM FOR SPECIAL-AGRO PROCESSING ZONES
As part of a potential engagement to finance the development of the SAPZ, the State recently hosted an SAPZ monitoring team. This team comprised representatives from the African Development Bank, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, and the SAPZ program, who assessed the conceptualized SAPZ project within the AMIC.
Speaking at the presentation held in ANSIPPA, Dr. Chuma Ezedinma, leader of the delegation, commended the Anambra State Government team, stating that the presentation highlighted their preparedness and understanding for project structuring and implementation.
Anambra State is currently among the second batch of states eligible to receive funding from the African Development Bank to develop an SAPZ and Agriculture Transformation Centres.
Furthermore, to ensure the economic viability of this project, the State had previously submitted an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) for a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) license. The State expects to break ground on this project by Q4, 2024.
ANSG SETS UP STATE STEERING COMMITTEE ON POWER AND ELECTRICITY
Following the ongoing efforts to build the Anambra State Power and Electricity market, the State Government has established a steering committee to oversee the swift conclusion of the Anambra Electricity Policy and the execution of potential Independent Power Projects (IPPs) throughout the State.
The committee, headed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, has engaged NexTier in collaboration with USAID to develop the Anambra Electricity Policy. Recently, the committee organized a stakeholder engagement session to gather various perspectives relevant to the Power Policy document.
The committee is tasked with three objectives: to fast-track the implementation of several IPP projects across the State, execute the light-up initiative with EEDC and TCN, and conclude the Anambra Electricity Policy as articulated by the Anambra Power and Electricity Committee.
ANSG HANDS OVER SITE TO GVE PROJECT LTD
In line with the agreement between the State Government and GVE Projects Ltd. to provide Power to select unserved and underserved communities in Anambra West LGA, the community has donated the project site for the swift commencement of the project.
The project will provide a Solar Hybrid Isolated Mini-Grid in Nzam, Oroma Etiti, Umudora-Anam, and Umuenwelum communities in Anambra West, to remedy the energy constraints within these underserved areas in the State.
The project will be delivered through the technical and financial assistance of the Mini-Grid Acceleration Scheme (IMAS) managed by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and supported by the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP), co-funded by the European Union (EU) and the German Government, and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Power (FMP) using a combination of PV solar technology with battery storage capability, and back-up gas-driven engines to generate electricity via the already existing network of about 11KV MV lines around Nzam.

Dalunu. I'm very happy reading this, and I hope that they're all brought to fruition. May Anambra succeed.
Good update. Though I worry that time is running out.
Also, you skipped some other MOUs signed during the Investment summit
1) Onitsha port concession - a vital piece for the special processing zones
2) The vehicle assembly, medical services projects, rail project etc. If these are waiting for the Multi Use Industrial City, then we have a serious problem
